Academy Award-winning movie and television actor Ernest Borgnine died at the age of 95. Borgnine is remembered as Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale, 60s television drama McHale’s Navy, along with many of the significant roles.

As someone who’s been fortunate enough to work in films and is a big movie fan in addition to this, the death of this Ernest Borgnine saddened me. The real legends of Hollywood, Ernest, died at the age of 95 on July 8, 2012.

As an actor, Ernest gave mythical and brilliant performances in “The Dirty Dozen” (1967), “Bad Day at Black Rock” (1955), “From Here to Eternity” (1953), and “The Wild Bunch” (1969), together with dozens of other people. While he specialized in playing negative roles in his early films, he gained fame by playing a timid, withdrawn butcher in “Marty” (1955), a true classic and one of the most intimate movies ever to win an Academy Award.

He had a very successful career on television, starring in “McHale’s Navy” (1962-1966), also as “Airwolf,” besides making many great guest appearances in such series as “The Simpsons”, “Magnum P.I.” and “Get Smart”.

Ernest was also the most loved and became widely popular as a T.V. Actor. He has performed many instances good and bad, and he did a commendable job delivering them. Here are some facts about Ernest Borgnine, which you might not know:

Served as a naval officer

Apart from what he is famous for, he has also done other significant things. You may know him for his acting on T.V., but you might not know that he has also served as a decorated Naval Officer. Now you can imagine the kind of discipline he has come from where. This might be a very major contributor to the success of his other professions. Borgnine served as a sailor and made his contribution in World War 2 as well. In the year 2004, he was presented with an honorary promotion as a Chief Petty Officer for his significant effort and support to the Navy.

You may or may not be a cartoon fan, but there’s a good probability you heard about the famous show on Nickelodeon, SpongeBob SquarePants. Borgnine lent his voice in the first season of the famous Nickelodeon show.

A NY tex-mex joint boasts a shrine to honour borgnine

Although the gruff actor had no particular relation to tequila and tacos, the West Village keeps a shrine in his honor. They crawled up the Borgnine Booth and, on the ceiling, hung pictures and portraits of the late actor, framed them in lights. The restaurant includes a Borgnine trivia test that is rigorous in its employee training guide and holds an annual Borgnine contest.

Made guest appearance in E.R.: Chicago based medical drama series

You might be wondering what Borgnine was doing in the Medical drama series and when did he appear. Though you might not recall, he made a guest appearance in the 331st episode. Borgnine played the role of a husband of a dying lady patient. Even at the age of 92, he was so stunning at dialogue delivery that this performance of his got him nominated for the Emmy Award.
